For people having problems with this, I wonder if it's tied to how and where you purchase your ticket? And to at what point you try to get your UA# added.
For example, it seems it's always much harder to get an airline to properly change a FF# in a reservation from one airline/FF# to a different (partner) FF#, than it is to make the reservation without any FF# and then add the one you want.
Are you purchasing on one of the big online sites (Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia etc?
If so, do you have a profile set up on that site which might already have a US DM FF# in the profile (or an HP FlightFund# from the old days?).
Are you purchasing on usairways.com after logging into usairways.com? If so perhaps a DM# is getting forced into the reservation.
My experience in the post-merger era: I've found that I haven't had any problem as long as I made sure that the FF# for the reservation and for my profile was blank, when purchasing on Travelocity etc. Then I call US (about 3 times to get a clueful agent) and have them enter my UA#. BP prints out as STAR GOLD and I get priority boarding.
I've also found that if I buy on united.com, my MP# gets in there properly at US. However nowadays it's hard to find the US flights you might want at .bomb.
I know that over in the Skyteam world people have similar problem with Delta not "getting" partner FF#s. It's important over there to never log in to delta.com or a skymiles# gets forced into the res and often doesn't get out when you later attempt to have reservations or a GA change it to NW (or other partner).
Different systems, but sounds like US has the same sort of problem..
