I thank everyone for all of the very good advice. I followed-up on the suggestions, checking other website message boards, including tripadvisor.com.

I narrowed my choice to between Mercurio and Casa Cupula. Today, I decided on Casa Cupula because of the effusive repoprts on it and because of my exchanges of e-mails with some of the guys making the reports. It is a smallish gay B&B, up a hill with a great view of the bay. It's rather pricey, but everyone says that it is worth it.

I'll post a report after my visit.

As for renting a condo, I may well do that on subsequent visits. This will be my 1st visit to PV and thus want to stay in a hotel with hotel services.
