Our TG/SQ res changed to TG/LH - date/route/airline change - keeping the first sector only ( KTM-BKK ). And that was for 4 pax on C awards ( 2 reservations ).
Because TG were chopping and changing airports at BKK, the change to our reservations was done gratis. I dont see why this cant be done any other time though for the £20 change fee. The PNR stayed the same although new ticket numbers were generated.
I wouldn't hesitate in trying this avenue. I've had problems booking revenue tickets through the ICC and now find dealing with the MAN ticket desk to be far more quicker and efficient ( and a lot less hassle ).
The itinerary change team can do anything in case of irrops, schedule change, etc... It does not necessarily follow from that that DC can do the same in case of voluntary change.
That said, I had another look at the T&Cs, and it seems that changes to awards, including change of routing or destination, are regarded as changes rather than cancellations as long as the destination remains in the same award zone, so, at least, a change fee rather than a canx fee is payable, whichever way the operation is carried out on the system.
