I hear you. I didn't spend TYP for almost 2 years because of a combination of relatively cheap tickets and a need for AA EQM. Now with the ability to choose specific flights and a 2 cent cap, it's a lot easier to know when's an optimal time to spend the points (assuming you don't want the 3 cents/pt available with business redemptions).
