Is it possible to add a sector to a revenue ticket? For example if I book a MAN-ORD-MAN and then want to add LHR-MAN-LHR at either end so I could check my bags through and so on is this possible?

The reason I ask is I have just booked LHR-MAN-ORD-MAN-LHR but I could only get the really tight connecting flights from London. In the future if I could book it separately and then combine it on to one ticket that would give me greater choice of flights, all be it at extra cost.
