In the PA days, Gate 1 started with what is today's Gate 4. The rotunda gates were in the teens (yes, I know, the Pan Am gate numbering scheme made no sense; thankfully Delta renumbered them in a somewhat logical manner). And OT, the rooftop parking lot used to be open and was great for airplane spotting...I remember going out to the T3 rooftop on weekends when I was doing summer internships in NYC in the late '80s to watch the 747s...

The rooftop parking was a great secret! It was a great place for a car service to find you easily. I also used to spend time up there, watching the planes take off and land. It could get really loud up there (especially when Concorde took off), and smell strongly of jet fuel/exhaust...I miss it.
I think DL kept it open until at least 2000. It may have been closed after the attacks.
