er...exactly - which is why I was trying to remove it rather than just no-showing for the first flight, which is clearly not advisable. I'm going to call United - since both flights are with them they may be able to do something (unlikely as they are BMI issued tickets, but you never know).
Again I've tried doing that in the past and UA advised me to call bmi as its on their ticket stock and its just an informational reservation for them.
