Hi all,
As mentioned in some of the other sub-forums, my girlfriend and I are making a trip to the US in Sept-Oct, taking in a lot of the West Coast.
The plan at the moment is spend a week in NY, drive to Grand Canyon (see big thread in NYC forum

), spend 3 days in Las Vegas, then hit the West Coast (San Diego, LA, San Fran, Yosemite).
The beauty of having a car and having no real plans (apart from the above) is that the trip will be very flexible. If we like somewhere, we'll stay longer. If not, we won't. For that reason, we've only booked NY and Las Vegas accommodation, and we're pretty flexible with the 8 days' travel from NY to Grand Canyon.
Anyway, my question is - in early October (say 4th to 15th), are we likely to have much trouble booking accommodation "on the spot" around Anaheim, then somewhere central in LA and San Fran? We're not planning on staying anywhere too fancy (that's what NY and Las Vegas are for), but we'd like to stay somewhere reasonably central in each place. In April I stayed near LAX and found that pretty good (easy enough to drive to OC, Hollywood, Beverly Hills etc...)
Just wondering if we should consider booking accommodation beforehand, or if we'll be right to just "rock up" and find accommodation reasonably easy on the day? Also, what sort of prices would we be looking at per night, for a basic, cheap hotel room, in a decent central location in LA? Wouldn't have to be a major hotel chain, something clean and safe is all we want.
Thanks!
Cheers,
- Febs.
