I am surprised that you were disappointed with Sevilla. But you do bring up a great point. It is a more modern city. You get do get a feeling of a different place and time with Cordoba and Granada, that you don't really get with Sevilla. Very much like Siena in Italy, if you have been there.
All of the places are great in their own way.
You are right, Sevilla is in many ways a provincial city juggling between modernization, tourism, and a sizable population carrying on everyday life. Except for the ruins of the Expo site, there really isn't one thing, at least for me, that is distinctly memorable. The city/region is economically quite depressed, and it is just a little sad to see all their efforts (AVE, airport, Expo) have failed to deliver what was promised.
