All of the places are great in their own way.
You are right, Sevilla is in many ways a provincial city juggling between modernization, tourism, and a sizable population carrying on everyday life. Except for the ruins of the Expo site, there really isn't one thing, at least for me, that is distinctly memorable. The city/region is economically quite depressed, and it is just a little sad to see all their efforts (AVE, airport, Expo) have failed to deliver what was promised.
