Seriously you should complain to BA and OneWorld, and be thankful you were not a citizen who required a Transit/Entry Visa...like 152 Countries do when connecting Internationally in the USA.

Not having you bags checked through, if you were confimed on both flights is totally unacceptable. You were fortunate not to have been hauled off to the Tower [Or Secondary Inspection - as it is know to US Homeland Security]
I dont know where anyone got the notion that I didnīt check my bags through or did anything out of the ordinary in terms of passing through Heathrow. I simply took the bus from T3 to T1, followed all the signs, went through security in T1 then stood in line for flights labeled UK and Republic of Ireland which are located in Terminal 1. My bags were checked through....you have to pass through passport control there regardless because Heathrow does not separate its Irish flights from its domestic flights.
