Yes. I was told the MEL incident (*) had resulted in all TG aircraft no-longer showing the forward camera feed by a THAI crew member when flying back to AKL.

(*). A340-600 blew some tires landing in a very strong crosswind at MEL in late 2005. Many pax were very concerned when the view down the runway disappeared during the approach, although actually, all large aircraft need to apply a drift angle when landing in a crosswind, which results in the centre line of the aircraft body (and camera) angles into the wind to ensure that the aircraft actually tracks in a straight line over the ground (a bit of vector maths...). Anyway, just at touchdown a larger gust of wind meant that the aircraft turned even more into the wind (weather cock effect), which was right at the limit of the pilot to control - heavy landing and blown tire ensued. There was some quite good amatuer footage taken from behind the aircraft as it flew in showing very large rudder deflections as the pilot tried to counter the yaw on touchdown)

The view from the camera is a bit like looking through a toilet roll - you have very limited peripheral vision and it is common to perceive that the yawing (left to right) movement of the aircraft to be quicker and of a greater extent than actually the case. Anyway, many pax where very frightened, and apparently some wanted to sue THAI for loss of ..... AND wanted access to the footage to prove THAI's negligence .

End result - no more camera for arrivals and departure with TG.
