While I can't speak to US' history, HP dropped this route a few years before the merger was announced. I flew the route a number of times and was always upgraded. The load's were very light with F often going out half empty. HP could never gain pax traffic as AA, UA, and CO(EWR) increased frequency and lowered fares.
