Have you tried calling back? You could even try to go to the airport or the ticketing office to reschedule. It is easier to argue and convince in person than it is on phone. Or buy a more expensive non-refundable ticket, like in first class etc.
Thanks for the response. The agents really insist that the residual credit will go back onto the original payment. I don't see why UA doesn't want to keep my money. SOme agents say that I can be issued a voucher if i do so wish. The mis-information here is making my head spin. Any personal experiences?
I will try the airport if it comes to that.
