These upgrades are worthless if you fly on discounted economy tickets. If you have the cash to buy a B or Y class ticket, then you can use them. If you buy a Y class ticket, you can be automatically upgraded to F if there is space available.

I have had a few of these expire because I am not willing to pony up another 1500 clams for a Y class ticket.
