The serious skidding incident you mentioned involved a QF B747-400 flying in from SYD. There are many factors that cause skidding. A groove runway would help prevent skidding, others things include spoilers, auto brakes settings. There all also many other factors that determine whether the aqua planing will occur. In this case it mentioned that the plane landed in 24 knots of wind which is not a small number. I suppose the wind was the main cause of making the plane go off course.
