I was faced with a similar choice. What I ended up buying was both SFO-AKL r/ts and JFK-AKL r/ts. I've refunded most of the SFO tiks, The price available JFK-AKL was so much better than SFO-AKL + JFK-SFO, even in Z, it just made sense. Plus allowed for the use of a single SWU. Sorry to rub salt in the wounds, just trying to add a data point.
