The report of skidding off the runway in rainy conditions, combined with the recent TAM crash in Sao Paolo, makes me think back to the reports that Suvarnabhumi opened without the runways--or at least without one of them--being grooved to draw rainwater off the surface. (I think Don Muang had a serious skidding incident many years ago that led to the grooving of the runways there.)
The conditions at Suvarnabhumi are very different from the small mid-city airport in Sao Paolo. And I'm not saying that a non-grooved runway contributed to the TG incident. It's possible that this aircraft was on a grooved runway: either because it was grooved post-opening or it was on one that was grooved pre-opening.
So the question is: Does anyone know whether the runways at BKK are now grooved?
