I think the default TWA position is always that they won't put people up overnight. I'd carry it further - if it was TWA equipment at fault (or their decision to cancel the flight to divert equipment to another flight), I would think they'd be responsible for the overnight caused by their business decision.

I had a similar situation some years ago. TWA decided to hold a flight I was on in order to pick up passengers arriving on a delayed connecting flight, and thus caused me to miss my connection. Would they put me up? Heck no! Ultimately gave me one of those throw-away $25 certificates. (I should have gone to DOT.)

I had been Gold with them for about 5 years running, and had over 250,000 miles on TWA. Quit flying them for 8 years. Fly them now only as a last choice.
