Could I (A Newbie) have handled this codeshare situation differently/better?
So here the situation and I am wondering if there was something I could have done better with the following situation. I am still relativly new to weekly travel. (Just made Premier!)
I had a flight from Newark to Charlotte at 7PM that is booked through United but the flight is operated by US Airways.
My flight was cancelled at about 3 PM. So I call United to change my flight and they say that they will rebook me the next day at 630 AM and that is the earliest flight I can get. I say ok. They then tell me that because I am checked into my US Airways flight they can't uncheck me out to reissue the ticket and that I need to call US Airways.
I call US Airways and they tell me that since it is a United ticket that they can't do it and United needs to take care of it.
I call United and they tell me that they have rebooked me onto a 6:30 PM flight. (Issue one: Did they give me the run around by making me call US Airways?)
Couple hours later I check my itinerary and they had actually rebooked me on the 6:30 AM so I am thrilled. I call US Airways to see if I can do online check in and they say no because of the cancelation but that I am confirmed on this flight.
I go in the morning and they can not find my name on the passenger list. I call United and go online and my reservation is there but still nothing with US Airways. And around and around we go.
Finally, US Airways gives me a standby ticket and I was lucky enough to make it on even though they had cancelled 2 other flights the day before.
So... Was there anything else I could have done in this situations. I've flown codeshares twice and both times I have had an issue. I thought everything was fine when on my last call when I had called US Airways and they said I was confirmed on the 6:30 AM flight.
