Hertz is trying not to get business from me. Tuesday night, I get a message from UA that my next morning's ORD-EWR flight was cancelled. I was able to get rebooked on a flight arriving into LGA about the same time, so I just had to drive across to NJ to attend my meeting in the Parsippany area. I still wanted to return via EWR so I didn't have to make the cross-town trip again (this time in evening rush-hour).
No love from Hertz though. Put in a pickup at LGA and return at EWR, and they show zero availability across the board. Switch the return to LGA, and voila, all classes are available to rent. Once I have the car, I can change to whatever I want, because *I have the car*.
I'll gladly pay the upcharge associated with my corporate CDP rate (pay for miles used), but it ticks me off that I have to resort to faking Hertz out for the privilege of renting a car from them to drive around a big metro area where airline reroutes are a daily occurrence.
LGA might have been sold out on one way rentals because they might need the cars to come back to LGA for rentals further in the week so they are not short with cars.
