Thanks. That was my experience before and assumed it would be the same again. Yes, I will be sure to check bags through to CTA.

The AA person explained that one clears customs at the final destination when traveling to a "foreign" country. Upon return to one's home country, customs is cleared at the point of entry. Is that correct?

If so, I think the CX agent may have thought that I live in Italy.
