I will be doing a 1 week business trip the end of August, LA to Singapore.

I am trying to figure which airline to use.

I will be purchasing coach, and want to upgrade to business.

I have a ton of AA miles, and a few (50k UAL miles - but could trade a bunch of other points and get this well over 100k mi if necessary)

So between one-world and star - which airline(s) would you recommend?

I might extend it to a vacation for the week after. How interesting is Singapore to visit? Only other place I have visited in Asia is China. This might be interesting, as possibly I would visit a layover city on my return (no possibility of vacationing on the way over).

I would appreciate any suggestions.
