But I don't see what the big deal is with LHR. For all the catterwalling I hear about it I've never really had any problems there other than crowds, but if you want to avoid crowds, I would advise people not to fly anywhere. I live in SF, so SFO I also use a lot and it's great too. The only airports I think are really lame are the ones where there are no shops, no food to speak of and such like that, since you'll often be there for some time. For example, when I was in DFW, a simple thing like those massage chairs they have in the B terminal were just a fantastic addition and something to soothe you a bit while you pass the time.
