Lap child pricing, re: domestic portion of international itinerary

I'll be traveling with a 2 month old soon, gotta get that expedited passport .

CO policy is that lap children are free on domestic flights, and 10% prevailing fare on international flights, so what gives for domestic portions of international trips?

Using Continental.com, it figures 10% for the whole trip, not just the international portion. Will a ticket agent be able to cut through the pricing red tape on this, or just want to charge me the phone access fee to boot?

So say the domestic portion is $200, and international portion is $600, CO.com wants 10% of the whole thing ($800), or $80 + fuel surcharges + taxes. Since I'm already hit for fuel surcharges, I'd rather not overpay the domestic portion too.

Any experiences out there? Topic is NOT lap v.s. reserved seat. discussion. ^ Thanks.
