Due to seasonality of demand on certain J-Heavy routes, contracting the work out might make the most sense. What's CO to do with an all-J 73G during the summer months when R fares can be had out of EWR for under $2,000?
In addition, if CO experimented with all-J service and found it to be unprofitable, CO simply could terminate service at the end of the contract (or terminate the contract early for a fee, if so negotiated) rather than be stuck with two/four/six/etc. all-J 73G's that it would have to sell/return to lessor/reconfigure to standard cabin specifications.
