Although you may not want to separate your children, I would suggest getting seat assignments; if the flight becomes oversold (or just totally full) and you dont have seat assignments, you will get a DM card and have to wait to hope to get a seat. At least with confirmed seat assignments, you know you will have a seat and you can always try to work with the GA before boarding.
