As a follow-up, I did load Thunderbird, and it does work fine. So the culprit is definitely a bad or corrupt Outlook. Since my wife is the one who wants to use Outlook, I will be following you advice and uninstalling what is on my system now and then reinstalling Outlook. Thanks a lot!!!!
