As far as Phuket is concerned, I do feel very much at home at the Hilton though its not up to the level of luxury (and price) of the JW Marriott.
The LC properties in Thailand are quite disappointing. Nowhere close to the Sheraton Imperial KL or St Regis Beijing interms of "luxury".
SGS :Regarding the turquoise tiles, theres nothing wrong with bright coloured tiles. Its just that it doesnt match with those cheap marble on the floor. I have seen the same tiles used in other hotels and homes, and it looked great. I dont know what actually went wrong there, but generally thai interior designers are quite good with colours.
I agree re: The JW it is the nicest chain hotel I have stayed in in Phuket truly a lovely place although the restaurants (which have you pretty captive given the location) are quite pricey.
The Golf Villas at the SG Laguna Phuket are very nice and not much more expensive than a normal room. They work especially well if you have a rental car (as we did) and come with a seperate lounge which is much more pleasant than the Grande Villas Lounge (Puccini?) in the main resort.
I think we will agree to disagree about the SGS, I was there last night and thought the marble/tile combo worked quite well. The decor at the SGS is not to my taste but everything else rocks and the service is 100% impeccable. I am not easily pleased by hotel service, but I have NEVER had any issues at the SGS and have always left happy.
