I transfer through LHR uite a bit and have never had a problem. In the address box, I usually write "IN TRANSIT TO ____."

There is a Flight Connections Center that can be used if you are connecting internationally (not sure if it works for domestic and Ireland connections) through which you avoid Passport Control.
