While I agree with the concept of the FA's doing a quick review of the restrooms and restocking -- I personally refuse to "assume" they are spending most of their time "magazine page flipping" and "colleague chatting" --- while I know this happens, it is just wrong to make such a broad generalization, IMHO.
It was an exaggeration used to make a point. No, not all flight attendants do everything I listed, but many do some of what I listed a lot of the time on the flights. In fact, on the 330s to Asia, I rarely see the FAs outside of the mandatory drink service and meal service. When I do go back (or up) to the galley to get something, more often than not at least one or two are doing one of the above activities. Or they spend most of the flight down below in the crew bunks. Either way, one would think they could find the time to do some quick tidying. But as I said before, if it's not explicitly in their contract, I guess I wouldn't expect them to do anything about it.
And why quote the word "assume"? I didn't use it at all.
