Being an AA employee and also Executive Platinum

I am curious if anyone here in the Aadvantage forum knows why an AA employee would be Executive Platinum. I realize there is a thread in the security forum going on regarding the particular incident on the LAX-LHR flight today, but my question is really AA specific and I think if anyone knows the answer they are likely to be reading this forum, not the other one.

Don't AA employees travel free/space available when on leisure, and free/confirmed when on company business? The only thing I can think of is perhaps an EXP who was employed elsewhere accepted a position with AA and thereby became both an AA employee and and EXP, at least until the following year when his or her status would presumably run out.

Perhaps someone here has discussed being both EXP and an AA employee, but I can't think of a search term that would work to find that kind of comment.
