Wow - you're brining me back - way back.

We honeymooned in Europe in 1970 - 45 days! But doing Frommer's Europe on $5 a Day, we only spent $1,800 including airfare and the rental car! Paris was our second stop and we had a reservation to pick up the car on Sunday.

Left our luggage at the hotel, took the Metro to the rental agency, and waited in the rain for 4 hours before giving up. By that time, the hotel had given up our room. We begged them to find us something for one night. Even tho they said it would be impossible, they tried. To make a long story short, we spent the night at what can be euphemistically called a house of ill-repute!

Of course, when we got the car on Monday, they refused to acknowledge their mistake - even though our confirmation stated Sunday pick-up. 37 years later, it's a good laugh. Still hard to get the sounds from the adjacent rooms out of our heads tho!
