i have never had a problem. have the cab stop next to the outdoor check in, and ask the driver to have the staff get you a chair. or, open your door and call out to them yourself. i've only had to do that once. other times, they've taken one look and offered to call for one. then, most airlines will typically give you a person to move you from one spot to the next.....
