Like many others here, I only help with luggage if elderly, injured, way too short to reach, etc. You pack more than you can handle, well "no soup for you".
When I was travelling on crutches, I took only a small backbag as my carry-on since I knew I couldn't handle my regular carry-on but I still greatly appreciated those who were willing to help me put it in the overhead (although I never asked and could do it on my own, it was much nicer with help)
