A very good friend of mine recently moved out of the ATL area. I wanted to give him as a going away present, 100K miles into his SM account. DL wanted to charge me $1,000 for this. Instead I printed up a nice "award" document, gave it to him and said call me when you want to fly and I'll book the tix.
DL was running an incentive, in which they waived the $25 fee and added 20% extra miles. This took both of my sons just over 25,000 miles for $10 each. Normally, I would avoid the mileage transfer "feature" like the plague.
