Your general advice is good to know. But I normally love the nighttime flight, arriving in GRU early in the morning. You think the F experience is so much better than the J one that I should be prepared to take the daytime flight instead if I can get that upgrade? Actually, maybe it makes sense to MFU coming back - I'd rather arrive home late in the evening than roll into the Fasano in Sao Paulo (possibly my favourite hotel in the world) close to midnight.
Gol is great because it is cheap, refundable, changeable and reliable (ATC go slow aside, that affects everyone). On short hops you won't notice the service difference between TAM and Gol, as on Gol the drink and snack is free. And Gol planes seem much newer.
I prefer the overnight flight to GRU as well but award availability is almost zero. But F on the day flight was great, the only long haul flight ever when i wished it would go a few hours longer, as I didn't have room to try everything on the menu. Just us two in 1AK, and 3 others in F. All turned pearshaped on landing, lost our bags, etc but that is another story.
Cheers
