I've never experienced the system "telling me" that platinum availability has been invoked when making online reservations. The only time I'm made aware of invoking the plat override is when I attempt to make a second reservation at the property, and get a message telling me I'm only entitled to one platinum override for the same date at the property.
I'm sorry Ohmark but both the web page on Marriott.com and the telephone reservation agents will inform you when the availability is being invoked
