I assume that your companion must have elite status also; otherwise you would want to keep the reservations under a single record in order to possibly get a companion upgrade. Of course, chances for a companion upgrade for a silver are near zero in a majority of routes.

My wife and I are both Plat elites and we almost never got upgrades until I started to split the reservations. Now we are batting almost 100% upgrades. Apparently, Something in the Continental EUA software didn't recognize that we were both plat elite.
