Good point. Also, pay for security staff st the moment is set by those running the airport. Less pay = higher profits = bigger bonuses.

On the other hand, security at LCY is a (relatively) pleasant affair. This morning, the queues went right round the mezzanine gallery to the doors of the business center corridor (not reception - if you know LCY you know what I mean). Still, I was through in 6 mins, with the queue constantly moving forward, friendly staff and all machines open and running (OK so there's only 3 of them, but still). There's also plenty of space to put stuff into the bins, and retrieve it later on. And chairs to sit on while you put your shoes back on. And a shoehorn.
I know LCY is, in the eyes of many, a shadow of its former self when there was one flight a day to Dundee and a Piper to Antwerp. But still.

So it IS down to management. And to the foolish idea of incentives for those managing core infrastructure assets being linked to the profitability of said assets, not for those who use them, but for those who own them.
