First you should check to see whether the TSA lines at T-2 really ARE horrendous or not. Every time I've been to Oakland lately, the line here has been very reasonable. They now have seven security stations at T-2, so even when the line seems long it moves quite fast. I haven't had to wait more than ten minutes here in months.
Of course, I don't usually fly during peak periods, but New Years Eve will not be a peak period.
