I understand when Bacon started charging on European flights ex MAN, drinks consumption went down 90%. I flew MAN-BRU once and was the only person who bought any food.

Personally I think when a legacy airline starts to match a LCC on prices, then they should also charge for Food, Drinks, Lounge Access etc. Except for Gold of course
