Note that you have to do more than open the account (which would be easy and probably worth 15K even if you had to keep it for a year).

Complete the transfer process by giving CIBC Express Switch complete instructions by phone by no later than Nov. 30/07 to:
1. transfer to your New Account at least one eligible, existing recurring series of pre-authorized transactions ("PATs") now being made on an account elsewhere; the PATs may be eligible recurring bill payments from the account or deposits into the account (excluding payroll); and
2. transfer to your New Account the full balance of an account you hold elsewhere and the closure of that other account (the "Old Account") and
3. authorize the award of Aeroplan Miles to your Aeroplan account number (if you are currently an Aeroplan member you will be asked by CIBC Express Switch to provide your Aeroplan account number and if you are not already an Aeroplan member, you will be asked by CIBC Express Switch for authorization and information to open an Aeroplan account on your behalf).
I don't recall them requiring the closure of another account last time, though it's possible. The way the banks are competing (e.g. iPod for moving to TDCT), it's almost worth keeping a few accounts somewhere like ING or something! I'm not likely to closemy prime TD account just for a few Aeroplan points. (You can close one account and transfer the auto-payment from a different account).
