Accordion-style Window blinds can be found in the newly refitted F seat on MH. The blinds are fitted between the two windows panels so you cannot actually touch it. On MH F, each seat has access to 4 windows, so there are two buttons; one controls the blind next to the seat and the other controls the blinds for the 3 windows furthest from the seat simultaneously.
The accordion-style blinds are in two halfs. Initially, the blind material that comes down is relatively thin so while you cannot look through the blinds, there is still light coming through; i.e. it prevents the glare for direct sunlight but would allow enough light through for reading without the overhead light on. Keep pressing the button and the thin material goes to the bottom and a thicker material comes down. This half really cuts out any light coming through and would be appropriate for long haul flights flying into daylight.
On the afternoon MH flight I was on, the cabin crew had to go to each seat to lower the blinds on the right side of the plane to prevent the afternoon sun from coming through. So there is no central button for crew control although there is no reason for there not to be one.
The buttons were fine to play with for a couple of minutes pre-take off, then the Dom arrived.
