This happened to me at DEN a few years ago for a 6 am flight to IAD (I was checking bags so I couldn't take care of that online). There was a line of about 75 people already at 5 am, when I got there. Fortunately, they recognized the problem quickly, and asked for people on 6 am flights to go to the front of the line.
