I'm sorry about your loss. From my personal experience. Southwest doesn't offer special fares for a death in the family. But I know United and American offered me a reduced fare when I told them I was going to a funeral. You can fly from Burbank to SFO or Lax to Oakland. The fares might end being the same as Southwest if its really last minute--Butit might be worth your time to check it out.
