The one time I had a really bad experience and got extremely upset with Southwest was about a year ago when I had a relative die and had to fly to the funeral. I called Southwest and asked about bereavement fares. With great gusto and happiness and customer service pizzaz, the lady told me, "I'm sorry, at Southwest we don't over bereavement fares because even our everyday low prices beat our competitors' bereavement fares!"

All right, maybe that's not a big thing, but at the state of mind I had at the time, I was a little bitter about being told so in such a happy, chipper way.

So, no, no WN bereavement fares. But I did end up flying Southwest -- while she might not have put it in the tone I needed, the lady was right: even at full fare, WN was cheaper than any other airlines' bereavement fares. From that day forward, I just vowed to stick to the internet and avoid the person-to-person interaction on things like that.
