The problem is that the OP was being inconvenienced with all of this and imposed upon. While I don't mind trading equivalent seats (or better seats -- of course the best was Y to F a couple of times), the agents must do it in a discreet manner. In one or two cases, I have refused and faced the wrath of upset passengers for hours! It's not fun either way.
