We've had passport renewals done in a matter of an hour or so in an embassy overseas. Today, with all the security, I wouldn't count on it, but it would still be better to check with the American Embassy if you suddenly realize that it's going to expire before return.
Luckily, it's not a problem (it was, but a very nice embassy staff helped us get a passport before the flight). my question is really a "what if". since a few years ago we did get on 2 planes and arrived with the expired (and yes she is a citizen) passport, i just wondered if the different climate today would have resulted in our getting in the US, or being denied boarding or entry along the way.
and i should remind all to check their passports' expiry dates.
