If you have time, pop over to NZ. Book one-way ex-Oz and return ex-NZ. QF business sale (matches a NZ sale which ended yesterday - so be in quick QF may stop selling soon) for under NZ$700 one-way (80 SCs + 20 for the flight the other way makes 100). Or LA cheap business fares, also ex-NZ (a little over USD300 one-way).

The QF flights can be done as same day return trip if desired, but LA flight requires an overnight in AKL.

If you don't want to go to the expense of business class trans-tasman (ex-NZ) then QF's domestic sales in NZ (held every Tuesday) have cheap fares, although likely there will be no more for July/August travel. There are still plenty of normal fares for NZ$8-9 per SC.

But, as posted above, not clear what value you'd get from QF silver.
