I agree this is strange they are not applying. It is limited to only CO, UL NW and AA. Chances would seem fair.

I think 2009 sees 4 daily frequencies added, with 1 having to go to new applicant. There's plenty to go around.
I also agree with others, why an existing routing rather than a new one. I feel this would increase chance of success.
It seems AA does not really want to expand Asia even though they say otherwise. Look at others now compared to AA. The pilots should not be a factor now as by then a new contract will be in place most likely.
